Is a granite headstone porous/likely to absorb water?

I am getting a granite headstone for a family member. I heard that if granite is sandblasted (it'll have a frosted, sort of rough sandpaper like feel) that area will become porous and prone to absorb water, bird poop, mud, etc. and can even stain the area permanently. Is this true?
