Metal roof compared to 3D shingles.?

I live in Ky. and had damaged to my roof from the ice storm. So, far I have had one man look at it and suggest 3D shingles. I was really wanted a metal roof, but was told that would be a lot higher and that 3D shingles will last for 30 yrs. Any adviced will be appreciated. Cost is a factor for me.
