How do you think women dealt with their periods in "cavemen" times?

This same question was asked in my anthropology cl, many moons ago. Obviously, they can't be absolutely certain when you really go back in time- but there are a few cultures which can give us a glimpse of possible solutions. Some used dried gr, or shredded bark. Women often actually would leave the main group and probably did let it flow, using things like dried gr, etc, for sitting on. Once fabric existed, like linen, cotton, and wool, women used that to make pads. Those were washed out each month, and set aside to use again. That was the main method until disposable sanitary pads came about during the last century. Makes you really appreciate the industry, and say thank heavens for Kotex.
